A few ideas to help you on your way...

At a time when blogging, twittering and emails are commonplace we want to celebrate an earlier form of mass communication - the picture postcard. In its heyday, hundreds of millions of cards were sent through the mails each year to become the universal form of personal communication in the days before telephones were commonplace.

These cards were illustrated with all manner of images, ranging from the mundane to the risqué, from the scenic to the domestic. We have chosen four types that we hope will encourage you to submit something to the Gallery on the Green.

Rather than send a traditional postcard why not be ambitious and make your own as we would be happy to receive your hand-made art-work, whether drawn, collaged, printed, stencilled, or written? Above all, enjoy yourself.

Wish you were here!!

We want to hear about where you have travelled, either on holiday, or on your day-to-day business. Don’t forget to write a message on the back telling us about the weather or what you have enjoyed.

My Hometown

Send us a card about the place where you live, or grew-up, and tells us something about what makes it so special to you.

As the terminal for the local bus company Mersey Square, Stockport, was very much a part of my life c.1955. I was a dreary, grey, sooty place to queue for the number 27 back home. Even more so late at night after dashing out of the cinema fearful of missing the last bus home.”

Make us Laugh

The comic postcard has always been popular as humour is a universal quality of life. So send us a picture that you think will tickle our fancy.

Poetry, Quotes & Lyrics

At some time in our lives we have all been touched by the power of poetry, an evocative quotation, or meaningful lyric. Send us your favourite, telling us what it means to you.
